Metal Trade Show | Aluminium cans market poised for robust growth by 2035 with CAGR of 4.1%

The demand for aluminium in the packaging sector is primarily driven by beverage cans. Key factors fueling the rising demand for beverage cans include the growing younger consumer base, the introduction of new product variations, and heightened environmental awareness among stakeholders. At the upcoming Metal Trade Show, the sustainability and innovative applications of aluminum cans will be in focus, providing the industry with more opportunities for cooperation and development.

As per the data shared by Metal Packager, the global aluminium cans market is poised for significant growth. The projection suggests a hike from $61.1 billion in 2024 to $63.2 billion by 2025 and further expands to $94.5 billion by 2035.

However, if we see the analysis by AL Circle, published in their report titled, "ALuminium in Packaging: Consumer trends and market dynamics",   the global aluminium cans market in 2023 reached US$55.5 billion in 2023, which further escalated to US$58.2 billion in 2024. In 2025, it is projected to stand at US$US$61.5 billion, which in 2032 may escalate to US$85.6 billion.

According to Future Market Insights, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.1 per cent between 2025 and 2035, which, as per the Outlook report by AL Circle, is the same (4.09 per cent) for 2020 to 2030. The packaging report suggests a CAGR of 4.93 per cent for 2023 to 2032.

Driving this expansion is the food and beverage industry, which continues to embrace aluminium cans for their protective qualities, sustainability advantages, and consumer convenience.

As both manufacturers and consumers increasingly recognise the benefits of aluminium packaging, this upward trend is set to persist. Global consumption of aluminium beverage cans surged from 343 billion units in 2015 to 416 billion in 2020, and projections indicate that production will reach 627 billion units by 2030. In 2023, the global aluminium cans market was valued at USD 55.5 billion and is expected to grow to approximately USD 78.9 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 5.15 per cent over the forecast period.

Aluminum stands out as the world's most recyclable material, with an exceptional near-100 per cent recyclability rate. It maintains its quality through endless recycling cycles, making it one of the most sustainable choices for packaging. The environmental benefits of aluminium are substantial—its recycling process conserves energy, cuts millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, and lowers the demand for transportation fuel. Furthermore, producing aluminium cans from recycled materials consumes significantly less energy than manufacturing new ones, reinforcing the industry's shift toward more sustainable packaging solutions.
