Aluminium Show | Aluminium Lightweight, Volvo BZL-GML Eco Bus Leading Green Urban Travel
In today's pursuit of green and low-carbon travel, Volvo Buses, in collaboration with Gemilang International Limited, has launched the groundbreaking Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series aluminum electric advanced city bus. This innovative product not only represents a major leap in Malaysia's public transportation sector but also sets a new benchmark for green urban travel worldwide. The Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series, with its unique aluminum body upper structure, showcases the tremendous advantages of aluminum in modern bus manufacturing. The lightweight properties of aluminum ensure that the bus maintains strength while effectively reducing the overall weight, thereby improving energy efficiency and range. Meanwhile, aluminum's corrosion resistance provides strong support for the long lifespan of electric buses.
According to Aluminium Show, the bus adopts the Volvo BZL 4×2 chassis, featuring a modular body design concept that not only helps reduce maintenance costs and downtime but also simplifies spare parts inventory management. As an electric model, it has zero emissions, helping to reduce environmental pollution. Additionally, over 90% of the components are recyclable, considering sustainability during the development of the new bus.
Marcus Mak, Country Manager of Volvo Buses, stated: "Electric vehicles are a key solution for a sustainable future. The launch of the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series not only contributes to the environment through zero emissions but also plays a significant role in enhancing industry networks and increasing public awareness of electric vehicle technology."
The launch of this electric bus coincides with the trial operation of the Rapid Bus service in Kuala Lumpur. The trial operation is scheduled to start in July 2024 and will last for at least six months to a year. During this period, a Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series electric bus will operate on the Desa Tasik LRT Bandar Tasik Selatan route, providing citizens with a convenient and environmentally friendly travel option.
Gemilang ED Poon Junjie stated: "The launch of the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series aligns perfectly with Rapid Bus's plans to expand its fleet electrification. Our joint efforts with Volvo to achieve sustainable development through electric vehicles coincide with the Malaysian government's initiatives to reduce carbon footprints and promote green transportation."
