Volvo Buses has introduced the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range, a pioneering electric low-floor, two-door premium city bus that marks a pivotal development in Malaysia's public transportation system. This launch is a result of a collaboration with Gemilang International Ltd, aimed at setting new industry benchmarks and expediting Malaysia's shift toward sustainable urban mobility. The Volvo BZL-GML Eco Series exemplifies the advantages of using aluminum in modern bus construction, featuring an aluminum body superstructure that ensures outstanding reliability, safety, and environmental performance. Aluminum's lightweight nature and robustness are crucial for enhancing the efficiency and longevity of electric buses.

Marcus Mak, Regional Manager for Volvo Bus, highlighted the critical role of electric vehicles in achieving a sustainable future, stating, "The introduction of the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range will significantly contribute to environmental sustainability through zero emissions, while also strengthening the industry's network and enhancing the understanding of advanced electric vehicle technology."

The signing ceremony with Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd marked the beginning of trial operations for the new electric buses within the Rapid KL bus service. Muhammad Yazurin Sallij, Chief Executive Officer, announced, "The trial operation is set to start in July 2024 and is expected to continue for six months to a year. A Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range electric bus will be operational on Route 581 from Desa Tasik to LRT Bandar Tasik Selatan."

Gemilang's Executive Director, Pang Jun Jie, reinforced the initiative's alignment with Malaysia's green mobility goals. "As Rapid Bus expands its fleet electrification program, the timing for the Volvo BZL-GML Eco Range couldn't be better. Both Gemilang and Volvo are committed to sustainability through electric vehicles, supporting the Malaysian government's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and promote green mobility across the Klang Valley and other major urban areas."
