aluminium conference| Norwegian Watchmaker Radium Instruments Embraces Sustainability with Hydro CIRCAL Aluminium Cases

Radium Instruments, the Norwegian watchmaker renowned for its innovative use of materials, has further advanced its sustainability efforts by incorporating Hydro CIRCAL recycled Aluminium into its latest watch cases. This specialized Aluminium, co-developed by Thomas Cappelen Malling and Sjur Stangebye-Hansen, boasts over 75% recycled content. Its use not only substantially cuts energy consumption during production but also reflects Radium's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Hydro, a key partner in this initiative, not only provides the recycled material but also engages deeply in the prototype design process, sharing crucial manufacturing data to enhance the adaptation of Hydro CIRCAL Aluminium in watchmaking. This collaboration results in watch cases that are durable, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion—ideal qualities for the sophisticated designs envisioned by Radium.

The latest collection from Radium features four models, each available in two variants, all powered by the high-quality Swiss ETA 2892-2 movement—a caliber esteemed for its reliability and utilized by prestigious brands such as Breitling and IWC. These watches, each measuring 38 millimeters in diameter, are equipped with robust sapphire crystal glass, SuperLuminova-coated hands, and indices for optimal visibility.

Hydro CIRCAL Aluminium is an alloy primarily composed of consumer scrap, sourced from diverse products like automobile parts, bicycles, and even beer cans. This innovative material is a product of extensive research and development in metal waste sorting and recycling processes, leading to a significantly reduced environmental impact of the watches. Radium Instruments thus stands at the forefront of eco-friendly design, setting new standards for sustainability in the luxury watch industry
