aluminium expo|Hindalco plans to build a lithium battery-specific aluminum foil manufacturing plant in Odisha state
According to foreign media reports, Hindalco's President, Kailash Pandey, stated last Friday that Hindalco plans to establish a lithium-ion battery-specific aluminum foil manufacturing plant in Sambalpur Lapanga, Odisha state. This move is aimed at helping Hindalco take a leading position in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The project is expected to have an investment of 8.03 billion rupees.
During his speech at the 24th Enterprise Odisha Summit, Pandey also revealed that the company plans to build a white fused alumina project within the Lapanga plant. This project will reduce India's reliance on imports in the refractory industry and open up export opportunities for the company in Southeast Asia, the Far East, and the Middle East regions.
As per information from the aluminium expo, both of these projects have obtained the necessary single-window permits from the government of Odisha state. Hindalco has invested 250 billion rupees in Odisha state over the past 15 years. As the only fully integrated aluminum producer in Odisha, covering mining to value-added products, Hindalco is currently venturing into the green energy sector, with projects such as the new battery foil project at Aditya and the development of a 1,000MW floating solar project at Hirakud reservoir.
