aluminium expo | Carbon emissions decrease by 90%! BMW will use green electrolytic and recycled aluminium from 2024!

Recently, BMW Brilliance and two aluminium material companies in Henan Province signed a memorandum of understanding for green electrolytic aluminium and recycled aluminium from 2024 to 2030. Compared with primary aluminium, green electrolytic aluminium and recycled aluminium have significant advantages in terms of energy saving and emission reduction. The two MOUs not only guarantee the demand for high-quality, low-carbon aluminium for BMW's automotive production, but also reduce the carbon footprint of automotive production from the source.

Aluminium, a key metal material for automotive lightweight transformation. Reducing carbon emissions in the production chain is the key to achieving green and low-carbon transformation in the aluminium industry. Currently, there are two mainstream carbon reduction pathways. One is the use of low carbon emissions renewable energy production, and the other is to increase the proportion of recycled aluminium use. The two memorandums signed by BMW correspond respectively.

Based in China, developing for China. BMW has always been an active advocate and firm implementer of the green and high-quality development of China's manufacturing industry. According to aluminium expo, as early as 2021, BMW has tailored the "China Supply Chain Emission Reduction Plan" for the Chinese market, and joined hands with supplier partners to launch a "war of attrition". According to the characteristics of different high-carbon emission materials, they targeted "one by one", and strive to lead the low-carbon transformation of the raw materials industry with innovative technologies. In addition to signing a memorandum of understanding on low-carbon aluminium, BMW has also joined hands with Huayou Cycle to achieve closed-loop recycling of raw materials for electric vehicle power batteries. BMW signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Building a Green and Low-Carbon Steel and Iron Supply Chain with a Hebei Iron and Steel Group to gradually use low-carbon automotive steel in domestic models.

In the future, BMW will continue to practice the sustainable development strategy. BMW will inspire and motivate more Chinese high-quality suppliers to join "BMW Sustainable Development Community", and work together to contribute to the green and high-quality development of China's manufacturing industry.
